Jeff Castle announces departure from KSLA

After an impactful tenure spanning nearly a decade, Chief Meteorologist Jeff Castle bids farewell to the KSLA First Alert Weather Team, marking the end of an era at the network. Jeff Castle, a veteran meteorologist, has been a pillar of the KSLA weather team since joining in June of 2014.

Jeff Castle’s Career

Jeff Castle’s distinguished career has been defined by his unwavering dedication to weather reporting and his commitment to keeping communities informed and safe. Hailing from Springfield, Ohio, Castle brought a wealth of experience to KSLA, having spent most of his career navigating the unpredictable landscapes of Tornado Alley and Dixie Alley.

His journey through television meteorology took him across regions notorious for severe weather, including Texas, Oklahoma, and Alabama. Notably, Castle played a pivotal role during the catastrophic tornado outbreak on April 27, 2011, in north Alabama, providing critical information during a time of unprecedented crisis.

“My time here was full of personal and professional growth. I am forever grateful to KSLA and my News Director, Jayne, for taking a chance on me and giving me the opportunity to serve the people of the ArkLaTex,” Castle shared on Facebook. “Thank you for the trust you placed in me and I hope I did right by you in giving you the weather information you needed, especially when it mattered the most.”

Jeff Castle’s Background

Castle’s expertise was honed through academic rigor, having earned a bachelor of science degree in meteorology from the renowned University of Oklahoma and a master of science degree in atmospheric sciences from the University of Washington. His commitment to excellence led him to achieve the esteemed “Certified Broadcast Meteorologist” designation from the American Meteorological Society.

Before his illustrious tenure at KSLA, Castle spent 12 impactful years at their sister station, WAFF, in Huntsville, Ala. His career also included notable roles at KOCO in Oklahoma City, KFDA in Amarillo, Texas, and WKEF in Dayton, Ohio, where he embarked on his television meteorology journey.

Jeff Castle’s departure from KSLA marks a move to be closer to friends and family. “There comes a time in our lives when priorities change,” Castle shared. “Coming to the ArkLaTex to be a Chief Meteorologist in a severe weather market was a career fulfilling move for me, but personally it took me far away from family and close friends. I now have an opportunity to write another chapter in my career in a place that gets me back to a reasonable distance to the people in my life that matter the most to me.”

Castle has shared that he will be the next Chief Meteorologist of the WAAY 31 Stormtracker Weather Team in Huntsville, Alabama.

“Thank you ArkLaTex for welcoming me into your homes for the last 9 and a half years!”
