Free lecture series seeks to inspire community transformation
The Shreveport community is invited to join the inaugural event of a new lecture series, “Shreveport Forward: A Community Vision for Growth and Identity,” aimed at rethinking the city’s identity and exploring a shared vision for its future.
The first lecture, led by Professor Thomas Moran, will be held on Saturday, November 9th from 10 a.m. to noon in the Whited Room in Bynum Commons on the campus of Centenary College.
The “Shreveport Forward” series encourages Shreveport’s residents to consider themselves not just as consumers of the city but as active creators of its identity and future. Professor Moran will lead participants in a conversation about shaping Shreveport’s identity through the city’s historic milestones, its vibrant cultural icons, and the power of its local economy.
This first session will introduce the concepts that will help define Shreveport’s “North Stars”—guiding principles that influence everything from public investment to urban design and cultural celebrations, ultimately building a place where people want to live, work, and thrive.
“This is an exciting time for Shreveport to take control of its own narrative,” said Professor Moran. “Our city’s identity isn’t just a backdrop; it’s the driving force that can make Shreveport a place where people feel connected and inspired. By drawing on our history, our unique culture, and the strength of our local economy, we have the power to shape a city that reflects the aspirations of all who live here.”
Throughout the series, attendees will explore the foundational elements of a city, strategies for creating a cohesive civic identity, and methods for aligning community values with practical actions. The goal is to spark an enduring commitment to Shreveport’s growth, rooted in a shared vision and practical steps that every resident can support.
Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with fellow community members and begin a journey of transformation. Join us in Centenary College’s Whited Room on November 9th, and be part of the conversation that will set Shreveport on a path toward a dynamic and sustainable future.
