Local artist looks to change stigma around digital art

Local artist, Alex Richardson, is unveiling his latest exhibit, Point and Click: The Visual of Digital. This is Richardson’s second solo exhibit, with his first being inside BPCC’s Donna Service Gallery while a student.

Point & Click! Tap a button, click a mouse, type a command… That’s how many people imagine the artistic process behind art created on a computer. Richardson believes a stigma exists in the modern world of art around digital art and illustration.

“There still exists a stigma in the modern world of art surrounding digital art and illustration, viewing work done digitally as lesser than those done traditionally, and I like to pushback against that notion,” Richardson said. “Watching an older woman be flabbergasted at an art show, discovering that my piece was done digitally and those weren’t physical brush strokes was pretty great.”

Alex Richardson of Dasuq Arts has worked to dispel that stigma by creating vibrantly colorful and meticulously illustrated artwork, no different from what or how he’d sketch in his school notebooks.

The opening reception for the event will take place at The Lot Downtown, organized and hosted by The Agora Borealis, on September 2nd from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. It will be available to view for the next three months as well. This show was made possible by Individual Artist Grant funds from the NEA, regranted by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council.

The Lot Downtown is located at 400 Crockett Street. You can learn more about the event or RSVP on Facebook by clicking here.
