Matt Jones named Chief Meteorologist at KSLA

KSLA, the leading broadcast station in Shreveport, has announced the appointment of Meteorologist Matt Jones as the new Chief Meteorologist for the KSLA First Alert Weather Team. Jones takes over the role from Jeff Castle, who served on the KSLA First Alert Weather Team for nearly a decade.

Matt Jones’ Career

Matt Jones joined the KSLA First Alert Weather Team in January of 2023, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a profound understanding of meteorology. Born and raised in the Denver area, Matt’s familiarity with unpredictable weather patterns has already proven invaluable to the ArkLaTex region.

Having worked in diverse meteorological environments in Montana, New York, Missouri, and Wisconsin, Matt has honed his forecasting skills across a broad spectrum, from navigating winter storms to addressing severe weather and tornado outbreaks.

Matt Jones’ Background

Matt holds a meteorology degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver, showcasing his commitment to academic excellence in the field. He has also earned the prestigious Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society, further validating his expertise.

Before entering the television industry, Matt Jones distinguished himself as a professional storm chaser, contributing his unique perspective on weather phenomena. During his storm-chasing tenure, he witnessed over 70 tornadoes and lived through a harrowing experience escaping an EF5 tornado that devastated Joplin, Missouri.

With a decade of on-air experience and a background in storm chasing, Matt brings extensive severe weather knowledge to the ArkLaTex. His dedication to keeping the community informed and safe aligns seamlessly with KSLA’s commitment to providing accurate and timely weather updates.
