Stage Center announces 2024 inaugural production
Stage Center proudly announces the inaugural production of their 13th Mainstage season, Suzan-Lori Parks’ Topdog/Underdog, opening January 5, 2024, for a three-performance run at Marjorie Lyons Playhouse on the Centenary College Campus. Tickets go on sale Monday, December 18 online at www.StageCenterLA.com or you can call/text (318) 218-9978, Monday-Friday between noon-4:00 PM.
About Top Dog/Under Dog
Guest director Alex Hare (Broadway’s School of Rock and Side Show) guides our hometown hero (and history-maker for being the youngest black director to have a show play on Broadway) Zhailon Levingston, and Mikah Thomas (Harpo in last season’s The Color Purpl.) Topdog/Underdog, called “The greatest American play of the last 25 years” by The New York Times, is the recipient of the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the 2023 Tony® Award for Best Revival of a Play.
A darkly comic fable of brotherly love and family identity, Topdog/Underdog tells the story of two brothers, Lincoln (Levingston) and Booth (Thomas), names given to them as a joke by their father. Haunted by the past and their obsession with the street con game, three-card monte, the brothers come to learn the true nature of their history.
For Mature Audiences.
